Chief Measurer for the RS:X Olympic Windsurfer Class. Attend principal RS:X events as well as carrying out technical audits of the manufacturing facilities to ensure equipment is produced within tolerance and to a consistent level. Responsibility for ensuring the class rules are up to date and fit for purpose as well as making sure there is a consistent approach to equipment inspection at all events around the world.

Working within the Directorate of Maritime Safety and Standards, main focus of the role at present is review of small craft regulation for commercial vessels used for sport and pleasure. Working alongside industry and key stakeholders to create unambiguous regulation that is applied consistently to increase safety within the small vessel sector.

The RYA is the National Governing Body for Sailing in the UK.The Technical Department provides a range of services both internally and externally to its membership. This includes Coding of Commercial vessels under 24m and dealing with a wide variety of other aspects such as running measurement at principal RYA events and the Portsmouth Yardstick Scheme and National Handicap for Cruisers.In July 2013, the Technical Department merged with the Racing Department to create a new area called Technical and Racing Services. This includes the development of all RYA Race Officials, the Offshore Racing Group and the development of Racing Rules.In November 2014, the overall delivery and strategy for RYA Events was added to the areas role. This includes all RYA run domestic competitions such as the RYA Youth National Championships and international events such as the ISAF Sailing World Cup.In December 2015, Keelboat Development was added to the Technical and Racing Services area. A move which looks to consolidate the Governing Body role of the RYA with regards to sail racing into one area.From July 2017 onwards, my team has been strengthened with a new Technical Manager and Technical administrator giving better support services to the UK's clubs and classes. My title has changed to Racing Services Manager and the changes are allowing me more time to support the Director of Racing in a more strategic position going forward. The Racing Services team are now in a much better position to support sail racing development and create new opportunities to better the sport of sailing.
