About Bas Mesters
Bas Mesters is journalist, interviewer and moderator. He was dean at the Academy for Journalism (Windesheim Univ.), correspondent in Rome (NRC and NOS), director of the Expertise center for Journalism (univ Amsterdam)Between 2012 and 2014 Mesters was foreign editor at NOS TV/Radio and senior editor at the Dutch daily NRC Handelsblad.From 2002 until 2012 he was correspondent in Rome. He covered Italy and the Vatican for the Dutch national daily NRC.Before he worked a year as a staff member at the Dutch government Advisory council for Science and Technology (AWT). He focused on innovation strategies.He started his career in 1993 as a staff reporter at the dutch daily de Volkskrant, with special focus on immigration and integration issues.Mesters is a pioneer in the field of solution focused journalism. At the Academy of Journalism Windesheim he introduced as dean between 2014-2017 constructive journalism into the curriculum and into the research of this university of applied sciences. He was in 2011 the initiator of the journalistic project One11.nl, an example of solution focused journalism. It started as a New Year's present from journalists to the Netherlands on 1-1-11. An ad hoc coalition of hundred foreign correspondents and reporters from across the Dutch media participated for free. The websites one11.nl and one11world.org run stories on courageous pioneers around the world.
