I work on combining ecology with spatial and remote sensing analyses.

I did a PhD on the analysis of coastal vegetation using remote sensing. I used several remote sensing techniques (camera, spectroradiometer, uav (drone), aerial photography and optical+radar satellite) to analyse salt marsh vegetation and reed lands.

I studied Animal Ecology, I specialized in resource ecology. Additionally I started a master Geo Information Sciences (about half a year before finishing this I stopped because I had been offered a PhD position).

I created an app for Android phones that helps students choose the correct statistical test.

I analysed the effectiveness of wildlife corridors for butterflies with a computer simulation. Publication of the results is pending.

Research into the suitability of an area (Mantingerveld) for the common European viper (Vipera berus). (Catching vipers and assessing vegetation suitability with vegetations surveys to calculate migration routes and estimate vegetation suitability; this resulted in several management recommendations).

As part of my minor in spatial information technology I developed a GIS system focused on simplifying reoccurring actions, and an easier connection with the national flora and fauna database (I programmed this both within an existing GIS module, and a custom built C# module).

Research into the effect of small scale sod-cutting on the grizzled skipper (Pyrgus malvae) (gathering data and analysing this statistically). The results of this study were published (February 2011) in the journal ‘Vlinders’, I was the first Author.
