Bas van Mierlo (1973) is founder / owner at Houben & Van Mierlo Architecten and advisor for the municipality Nijmegen, Wageningen (chairman) and Etten-Leur. Incidental he is guest-mentor for the art Academy ArtEZ.He studied at the University of Eindhoven and graduated in Architecture and Building Technology in 2000. His first four years he was working in Amsterdam as (interior-) architect. In 2002 he co-founded his own architectural office in Eindhoven together with Jelle Houben (1975). After working eight years in his company he was invited to be a member of the advisory board of Biovalor Europe BV to reflect business strategy, management, operations as an entrepreneur and creative mind.To develop a wider knowledge of urban development and the more political movement behind urban planning, architecture en landscaping he became an advisor for the municipality Wageningen and Etten-Leur in 2017. In 2019 he became chairman of the commission in Wageningen. Since 2021 he is advisor architect for the municipality / city Nijmegen and takes seat in the quality teams of the ‘Waalfront development site’ and the ‘Station Area’.In architecture and urban planning he is very interested in the strain between the newly planned and existing building environment. Especially the existing, waiting to be redeveloped and showing an interesting tension in how to deal with the building structure/area and its new function or destination. All together with a clear mindset as scaping an environment for people and in a durable and profitable coexistence.Bas van Mierlo is always interested for an informal conversation about how to treat buildings or area’s and its new objective, or how to be a good interpreter, how to be a good entrepreneur and how to treat opportunities. Always with room for a laugh and a nice cup of coffee!
