Have you ever arrived at a fork in the road where you had to decide between security, time, and money?(ISC)² has reported time and time again of the shortage found in the industry where the high demand for cyber professionals is not being met with the skills the market is supplying to fill these roles.What can be done about it, however?Sometimes the answer lies beneath the surface in the most unexpected of places. On the surface, a lot of things can look up to code or on par. However, when it comes down to it, the thing that keeps talent thriving and providing the best service on the job is the professional that keeps a passion for cyber.The traditional certification proves that a certain domain of knowledge was vetted against a certain standard.This knowledge is often never applied in the way it was taught. The real key players involved are those that are naturally cyber thinking and of whom are aware of the different strategies & practices involved.There are times when hiring the wild card team player can provide to the organization a new perspective that keeps the line in check and provides an alternative perspective to the group's problem solving.As someone who has a keen affinity for FOSS and Linux, I also consider myself a cyber fanatic. Having taken the CISSP after receiving my bachelors in IT—of which during I completed courses directly related to cyber—I found myself in the predicament of not being able to rush in to any perspective role inline with my target career path.I believe that in order to break the barrier seen in the field where the right resources aren't being provided the right opportunity, organizations need to invest in the professionals the have the right passion for cyber.
