Bas Bolman has been a senior advisor at Deltares since 2017. He develops and implements international projects related to maritime activities such as fisheries, aquaculture, and offshore wind. These projects are multidisciplinary and integrated, often connecting with topics such as marine governance, the Blue Economy (BE), Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM), Marine Spatial Planning (MSP), climate change, and multi-use. In BE/ICZM/MSP processes, he is frequently involved in the development of frameworks and indicators, working closely with policymakers and other stakeholders.Currently, Bolman is involved in the MuMaCo project in Indonesia, assessing the feasibility of cultivating green mussels on bamboo structures, which may also help reduce erosion. In 2021/2022, he managed the World Bank's Comoros Country Environmental Assessment project. In 2021, he successfully completed a World Bank project supporting the articulation of BE and coastal adaptation investment priorities for Seychelles' climate resilience. In 2020, he led a project supporting the Mozambican government in developing a sustainable BE roadmap (clients: World Bank and ProAzul). Another recent project was the BE Sustainability Framework, which established criteria and indicators for blue economy sectors within and outside the EU (client: EASME / DG MARE). From 2017 to 2020, Bolman contributed to the development of indicators for Kuwait's ICZM framework.From 2014 to 2017, Bolman worked as a researcher at Wageningen Economic Research, focusing on marine governance and aquaculture projects. He played a key role in building public-private partnerships with the seafood industry, NGOs, and governments to promote sustainability in aquaculture supply chains in Ghana, Kenya, Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Indonesia. He also led a work package in the Horizon 2020 SUCCESS project, which aimed to enhance the competitiveness of European fisheries and aquaculture. Additionally, he was involved in the H2020 MARIBE project, which sought to unlock the potential of multi-use spaces in the Blue Economy. From 2010 to 2014, he worked at IMARES, where he led a work package for the FP7 COEXIST project, aimed at improving the integration of fisheries, aquaculture, and other coastal zone activities. Between 2008 and 2010, he helped establish public-private partnerships at the Dutch Ministry of Fisheries, working towards innovative techniques for sustainable fisheries and aquaculture.
