Hi, there! 👋🏽 I’m Basel. I’m an antitrust and trade regulation lawyer with a focus on building stronger rural economies. I represent family farmers, small businesses, and local governments (as well as groups working on their behalf) in regulatory advocacy and impact litigation aimed at righting the wrongs of concentrated corporate power in rural America — and building a free and fair economy for all.My work has been covered in or on Reuters, AP, Time Magazine, CNBC, The Today Show, Politico, The American Prospect, DTN-PF, Daily Yonder, and other media outlets. Sometimes, people also invite me to join panels and give talks about the things I work on. For example, I participated in a panel on rural entrepreneurial ecosystems at the 2022 Radically Rural Conference in Keene, NH, and a panel on the Right to Repair at the 2023 ABA Antitrust Section's Annual Spring Meeting in Washington, DC.In a past life, I litigated worker-side antitrust cases and facilitated complex real estate transactions. I have a law degree from The George Washington University Law School, and I’m licensed to practice in Texas and DC.
