Propcom Mai-karfi is an innovative, market-driven programme funded by the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (DFID) that aims to reduce poverty in Nigeria. The programme works with government, the private sector and businesses to enable rural markets to work better for the poor.The programme uses a ‘making markets work for the poor (M4P)’ approach in creating systemic changes in agricultural and rural markets in northern Nigeria. It works with motivated partners in the private and public sectors to deliver the programme’s goals and objectives.Job FunctionAs a Market Manager, my job function is centered on facilitating the process of bringing private sector players into the market system space by conducting prior market feasibility to seek out untapped opportunities that will bring growth to the small holder farmers and at the same time ensure progressive return on investment for the private sectors.

I am the Entrepreneurship Specialist for one of the largest skill-to-work DFID funded program in Northern Nigeria with focus on Kano, Kaduna, Katsina and Jigawa state. In line with the vision of program and in the space of my 17 months contract, I had supported the transition of over 17500 marginalized women and youths into economic empowerment and social inclusion through entrepreneurship training and linkage with startup finance and market opportunity. And i was able to achieve this with the below listed referenceAchievements• Facilitating the process of National Business Development Service Certification for practitioners in Nigeria in partnership with Small and Medium and Enterprise Development Agency of Nigeria. (SMEDAN)• Conducted the selection of Business Development Service Provider and Trainers to serve as Trainer on Pathways to Entrepreneurship Curriculum• Coordinated the training and certification of 45 trainers across 4 intervention states• Provide support in review of instructional materials for the training of targeted beneficiaries• Trained and Graduated 17500 youths in entrepreneurship after completing their 1 year skill training in various trade areas.• Set up 4 MSE Support Centre across the 4 intervention states of MAFITA project in response to provide continuous support for our startup microenterprises• Trained 1200 Master Craft Persons (SMEs) in different trades on Entrepreneurship and Business Startup Skills• Helped 238 marginalized beneficiaries start off small business in their trades and moved them out of economic disadvantaged to economic empowerment.• Contribute to the quarterly milestone reports for the project.• Participated and contributed to strategy development from pilot phase of project to scale up phase.• Continual Stakeholder Management Function

I was engaged by the KPMG-(International Development & Advisory Services – IDAS) as the Business Development Services Expert to monitor and supervise the Growth and Employment (GEM) Project. .My Specific Role:• I oversee the key components of both financial (grants) and non-financial (consulting services) support being provided by the project to all grant beneficiaries. The non-financial support include training, business advisory/counseling and consulting services. • I provide leadership and supervision on the activities and scope of support provided by the 27 contracted Business Development Service Provider (BDSP) firms. Each of the BDSP firms provides consulting services to 15 – 30 MSMEs within a period of 6 – 9 months, and I have the responsibility to ascertain and approved the quality of support received by the MSME beneficiaries prior to their qualification for grants.• I conduct field monitoring visits to the 27 contracted Business Development Service Providers and their allocated 695 MSMEs beneficiaries across the 36 states in all the 6 geo-political zones of the country. This function is to strengthen the performance of the service providers and ascertain the quality of service received by the beneficiaries. • I develop grant monitoring tracker for recruited 41 independent monitors working in all the 36 states to ensure compliance by the grant beneficiaries as stipulated in the grant manual.• I carry out independent review of submission by both the grant applicants and the Independent Monitor to ensure there is no compromise as stipulated in the grant manual.• I provide strategic support to colleague in carrying out baseline survey of all qualified GEM applicants on the grant scheme.• Regularly represent KPMG at various strategic meeting with different project stakeholders on matters relating to the grant scheme.
