In 2016, completed 25 years with Guide Dogs Queensland, and most recently the Manager of Client Services (Rehabilitation Services and Guide Dog Services).I have worked in the field of Disability Services, Rehabilitation, and Orientation and Mobility for over 30 years. Having begun working in the industry at theRoyal Guide Dogs Training Centre in Melbourne (1988), Victoria, and then moved to Townsville (1991) North Queensland. Later transferred to Brisbane (1996) to join Guide Dogs Queensland HQ where I spent the majority of my career to 2016.Role at GDQ was to develop Client Services, as well as concentrating on participant/client services, to explore realistic advances in O&M, Guide Dog and electronic adaptive technologies, such as ETAs and GPS systems. Adjunct Lecturer on the Griffith University, Masters of Human Services (OandM stream), as well as mentor and tutor to new cadets in the areas of Orientation and Mobility Training. In June 2009 dedicated years of service to the nation’s blind and vision impaired community was recognised with an Order of Australia Medal (OAM).It was this work as an advocate for the blind and vision impaired community beyond GDQ which contributed to the OAM award. I have been a Member of the Queensland Vision Initiative; QLD’s Vision Impairment Agencies network; consults on a wide range of projects, both here and overseas, and worked with a number of vision impairment agencies on low vision clinics and workshops.
