My role at University of New England was leading the implementation of the cyber security strategy and tactical cybersecurity activities. I was also the SME for security policy and manage security documentation, security risk assessments, third party security assessments, penetration testing, enterprise security architecture, and security governance.I also provided advice and support to the different business areas and schools to ensure that information security risks are identified and managed appropriately; and are compliant with relevant security policies.I was also responsible for cyber security incident management working with various infrastructure teams across the University to detect, contain and mitigate incidents.I worked very closely with IT management Team, Enterprise Architects and other business leaders; but primarily with the Chief Information Security Officer as his Second in Command (2IC) - acting as CISO on several occasions.I was also the Chair of the University Security Working Group with includes various technical team leads and managers.

I was based at the Department of Science, Information Technology and Innovation in the Chief Information Office. My role was majorly setting the direction for the information security function across the department. This involved building governance capability including policies, standards, compliance, and risk management programs. My role also involved leading the departmental cybersecurity assessments, coordinating the remediation, and reporting on progress. My role also included regular reporting to the departmental senior executives and board through regular cybersecurity posture updates, paper presentations and supporting the CIO during various cyber security high-level presentations.

I co-founded Nextech Security Solutions, a boutique cybersecurity company primarily based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania but providing services to clients in Rwanda, Malawi, Uganda, and Kenya. We provided services to companies in various industries including financial, government, educational, and Non-profit. My key responsibilities were majorly client-facing, business development, and project management which included:•Being the primary contact for external clients to ensure satisfaction is maintained throughout all engagements.• Leading gap assessment engagements for clients against known standards including NIST and ISO27001.•Managing a small team of full-time and part-time consultants to ensure engagements are successfully delivered.•Developing new client relationships to maintain the profitability of the company and improve sales. •Developing new company service offerings to serve the demands of our customers and remain competitive•Supporting IT Audit/Assurance engagements as the cybersecurity SME.•Providing expertise across several of the following domains: -Security Strategy Development & Implementation. -Security Framework Design & Implementation. -Cyber Security Awareness -Security Operations & Incident Response. -Cyber Risk management -Infrastructure Security Design.

This was a consultative creation of Tanzanian cyber security framework as a project of Norway Registers Development and ISACA Tanzania chapter joint venture. I was involved developing frameworks of SCADA and Industrial control Systems Security, Electronic banking and mobile payments, Critical Infrastructure Protection, E-services for Government-to-Business, Government-to-Citizen, Business-to-Business, Business-to-Customer, Government and Enterprise Information Systems Cyber Defense, Online Shopping and Entertainment, E-signatures, Computer Emergency Response Teams (CERT) and Early Warming Systems, Cyber Security Professionalisation, Cyber security best practices and technologies.This was an extensive collaborative research and on completion in January 2014, a draft proposition was submitted to the government of Tanzania for assessment and consideration on how these areas of information security can be handled.

The University has more than 25,000 students, is based in Uganda, and has presence in Nairobi, Kenya, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and Lusaka, Zambia. The University specializes in Science, Technology, Medical, Business, and Education courses. I was based in Dar es Salaam and I was assigned to teach Information Security, Project Management, Networking, Network Security and Information Systems.

The institution is in charge of developing and updating the curricula of primary and secondary schools. My responsibilities and achievements included; - Conducting effective network monitoring for the institution.- Assessing the network for weaknesses.- Assessing the network for possible traffic bottlenecks.- Conducting preventive maintenance of the network hardware and software.- Supporting users with software and hardware.- Conducting training of users on use of hardware and software.- Coordinating priorities between the IT department and user departments.- Reviewing the adequacy and allocation of IT resources in terms of funding, personnel, equipment, and service levels.- Ensuring effective running of all the IT equipment including the institution network.

The company deals in selling and servicing second hand computers and providing support to Ugandan schools, companies and individual clients. My responsibilities included: - Analysing existing client’s business operations and existing information systems.- Studying trends in business and be aware of competitors' exploitation of technology.- Defining alternative solutions to business problems, select preferred solution and justify selection to clients.- Recommending technology products (hardware and software) for purchase to clients.- Designing and implementing computer networks for clients.- Conducting hardware and software training for users.- Participating in the implementation of new systems.- Conducting installations of hardware and software for clients.
