General Manager

The Derek Corporation

Auckland, New Zealand

The DCL is a business with a number of divisions – viz. Skin Care, Textiles, Apparel, Souvenir, and Produce (Honey, Butter, Biscuits and Chocolates).Responsibilities:My role as General Manager was to manage the day to day activity of the company and to provide structure and initiatives to the company across all divisions.• Each division was analyzed for profitability. One non profitable division was closed.• The company historically had certain periods in the year that were unprofitable. These were identified and divisional release schedules began addressing these shortfalls.• All reporting lines were clearly set with individual annual targets.• A quarterly job description and personnel feedback meeting was established.• Stock issues were analyzed and a plan to deal with old stock initiated.• A number of new products were initiated under a new Brand Focus such as biscuits, art décor for the local and international market, and various new lines for the tourist retail stores.Key achievements:• An exclusive Distribution Agreement was signed with Donovan’s Chocolates. The chocolates were sold and distributed to all Tourist Retail outlets, Speciality Stores and FMCG Chains under a new Brand identity. Initial profit was 180k per annum. • The Branded Skin Care Range was promoted in all tourist retail outlets throughout New Zealand. The Kiri label was sold into most tourist outlets as well as 6 Fast Moving Consumer Goods Chain Stores.• Within the first two months I saved the company 100k by technically correcting a couple of lines in the Skin Care Range.• All non-profit lines were identified and a plan made to replace them with new items. Stock of slow sellers was reduced significantly e.g. in the sock category eighty old styles were deleted and over fifty new ones were introduced. The profitability of this category improved over 300%.

Ceo

L.T.Williams Nz Pty Ltd

Auckland, New Zealand

Storex Industries Ltd. is a manufacturer and importer of Housewares. The company is a key wholesaler to major retail chains in New Zealand.Responsibilities:The company historically was a plastic coated wire manufacturing organization. My role as Chief Executive Officer was to take the company to the next level increasing market share and developing the business. To achieve this the company had to change from a production orientated focus to that of a Wholesaler and Trader in the Retail Sector.Key Achievements:• The import division now contributes 90% of the overall profitability of the company. • At Storex a joint venture franchise for export business was signed with one of our key customers. Typically this made a positive GP shift of 25% across a number of the ranges.• Within the first six months of my tenure at Storex the company lost 50% of its business as a result of one major customer choosing to import a particular product into New Zealand rather than purchase the locally made item. Over two years we managed to replace the lost business. Over the following twelve months we also regained the customer and supplied their product via indent and local manufacturing combined. Overall through this we improved the GP by 11% for the product category. • Storex is now represented in seven major Retail Chains throughout New Zealand.• All locally manufactured products were outsourced to companies within the group at improved margins – some as high as 15% and as a result overheads were significantly reduced by 50%.
