Basil Khalil is the Vice-president of Operations for FedEx Express Latin America and Caribbean Division, based in Miami. Khalil manages a diverse team of more than 1,400 operations personnel that work in the CCA Region. The CCA Region consists of 39 countries and territories located in the Caribbean, Central America and the Latin America Global Service Partners (GSPs). He also had divisional responsibility for Supply Chain in Latin America. Khalil joined FedEx Express in 1997 as a financial analyst for the Financial Planning and Analysis department, where he was quickly promoted for leading a corporate-wide initiative to identify international growth strategies. As a manager, he was responsible for implementing the global cash handling and control system and rolling-out electronic invoicing in the Caribbean. As a managing director, Khalil had responsibility for all aspects of IT software development, telecommunications and network engineering for the Latin America & Caribbean (LAC) Division. Prior to his most recent role, Khalil had responsibilities for Planning, Engineering, Quality & Supply Chain for the Division. Khalil has been honored five times with the FedEx Five Star Award, the highest recognition bestowed on employees who demonstrate leadership, creativity, superior performance and distinguished efforts in support of FedEx customers. In addition, Khalil was named to South Florida Business Journal’s 2013 prestigious list of ’40 Under 40’. Prior to joining FedEx, Khalil served as an operations analyst and senior systems analyst at Ryder Systems Inc. and later Ryder TRS.Khalil earned a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in industrial engineering from the University of Miami. He currently serves as a member of the University of Miami President's Council and was recognized as the University’s Young Alumnus of the Year. Khalil also serves on the Board of the Beacon Council and is this year's Treasurer. He is currently a PhD candidate in Industrial and Systems Engineering.

Leveraged best practices from EMEA, Canada, FedEx Ground, and FedEx Services to develop a built-to-suit facility with a 12K PPH sort system and space for 300 staffed call center agents.• Replaced the Clearance systems in LAC with a new suite of tools (CAIRO) designed to help proactively address problem packages in advance of aircraft departure from the origin market. These tools helped bring key LAC markets to compliance with all local regulations, were developed consistent with FedEx’s technology strategy, and standardized the clearance processes where possible. One of the tools, Clearance Customer Profile (CCP), was globally adopted and was recognized in the 2016 InformationWeek Elite 100 (No. 5 spot).• Successfully led the redesign of the Supply Chain operations in Mexico. This included development of a new 21K SqMt Regional Distribution Center (RDC), consolidation of two supply chain companies, and establishing the right systems, processes and procedures to support long-term.• Ensured quality & process improvement activities within the region were consistent with FedEx Express ISO quality management system and achieved ISO9001:2015 certification for LAC Supply Chain. -
Managing Director ItFedex Latin America & Caribbean May 2005 - Feb 2011- Organizational responsibilities included global application development, systems analysis and testing, network engineering, help desk support, business continuity planning, and offline customer automation.- Managed an annual budget of $18M and directed a staff of 9 managers and 120 professionals covering 50 countries and territories in Latin America and the Caribbean. - Led the development of the technology strategy to complement the business goals and objectives of the Latin America Division. - Developed the Clearance Ancillary Invoicing Reinvention Opportunity (CAIRO) program to develop world-class systems that complement process best practices in the areas of Clearance, Brokerage, Billing and Invoicing. - Oversaw the implementation of a fully converged data and voice MPLS network which allows for the seamless and cost effective transfer of over 30,000 daily customer calls to four call centers across the Division. - Achieved “Gold” status, the highest internal rating in FedEx, for Divisional efforts in the area of Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery. - Implemented an application reduction strategy that helped reduce the number of applications in the division from 112 to 76 in three years, thereby enabling the movement of IT from a maintenance only department to a change agent for the Division. - Chaired the Latin America & Caribbean Division Community Relations Board which coordinates and promotes philanthropic activities across LAC. - Increased Survey Feedback Action (SFA) management scores for the organization by 11 percentage points over 3 years
