About Bas Rosier
I love solving puzzles. Any kind.Figuring out complex time signatures in songs by unknown rock bands? Count me in. Planning next week’s 150-km bike ride and looking for the best route? I’ll show you the way.Want to assemble antibodies, proteins, and DNA, and study their interactions at the nanoscale? I’ll bring my nano-toolkit. Need to structure that scientific project that four different people kind of worked on and seems finished but nobody knows? Let’s get the team going. Writer's block on that paper that has been at the top of your to-do list since last year? I’ll get the creative juices flowing.I have a strong background in antibody and protein engineering, DNA nanotechnology, and bioconjugation techniques. In my PhD I built DNA origami nanostructures to study proteins involved in programmed cell death, and in my postdoc I develop bioluminescent immunoassays and molecular sensors that can measure important markers involved in various diseases.Connecting proteins and DNA on the molecular scale is what I do on a daily basis, but I am glad to connect with you on the human scale and hear your ideas!
Listed skills include Biomedical Engineering, Biochemistry, Microfluidics, Nanotechnology, and 9 others.

Bas Rosier work experience
A career timeline built from the work history available for this profile.
Postdoctoral Researcher
Postdoctoral researcher in the group of prof. Maarten Merkx in the Department of Chemical Biology and the Institute for Complex Molecular Systems, in collaboration with the group of Javier Ramón Azcón at the Institute of Bioengineering of Catalonia. I develop antibody-based nanoswitches using DNA nanotechnology for continuous monitoring of analytes and biomarkers in organ-on-a-chip microfluidic devices.
Phd Student
PhD candidate with dr. Tom F.A. de Greef and prof. Luc Brunsveld at the Institute for Complex Molecular Systems. I used DNA origami-based nanoscaffolds as biomolecular organizing platforms for studying proximity-driven interactions of relevant biomolecules, in particular proteins.
Visiting Research Scholar
Short-term research scholar with dr. William M. Shih. Microfluidic analysis ofthe rate of vesicle fusion catalyzed by SNARE proteins suspended on a circular DNA origami scaffold.
Graduate Student
Graduate student with prof. E.W. Meijer and dr. Tom F.A. de Greef. Development of a microfluidic toolbox for supramolecular chemistry and chemical biology, including gradient-generating devices, microfluidic diluters and microcontact printing.
Graduate Program Complex Molecular Systems
Institute for Complex Molecular Systems. An additional, interdisciplinary program for selected MSc students, aiming at a career in research. Completed additional courses include statistical mechanics, differential equation analysis, biophysical techniques, systems biology, molecular modeling and advanced organic chemistry.
Research Intern
Research intern with prof. Jaap M.J. den Toonder and dr. Hans M. Wyss. In a 5 month full-time research project I developed a multilayered mesofluidic (mm-scale) device from poly(methyl methacrylate) using laser micromachining as an in vitro model for the blood-brain barrier. In this device I was able to study the behavior and interaction of astrocytes and endothelial cells under physiological, hemodynamic conditions.
Student Assistant Qc
As a student assistant, I worked at quality control and shipping and packing of radiopharmaceuticals.
Cooperative International Science And Engineering Internship
Visiting intern with prof. Craig J. Hawker at the Materials Research Laboratory. In a 2 month full-time research project I focused on synthetically tuning the electronic properties of pi-conjugated polymers using post-polymerization thiol-yne click chemistry. I investigated the effect of a library of thiols on the energy levels of poly(p-phenylene vinylene) using cyclic voltammetry and UV-Vis absorption and emission spectroscopies.
