As a self-employed copywriter I've worked with leading design agencies in both the UK and Europe, creating effective copy solutions for clients in a broad variety of industry sectors. I've worked with 5-star hotel groups, property search engines, gluten free gourmet health food brands, leading FMCG names, print specialists, museums, photographers, artists and a bloke who makes biodegradable shoes out of coconuts. Over the last six or seven years I've worked on all manner of commissions, from naming jobs, strap-lines and tone of voice development, to brochures, websites, food packaging, annual reports, print ads, promotional campaigns and more.I am the co-author of ‘Symbol’ (Laurence King, 2011), and assistant editor/researcher for ‘C/ID: visual identity and branding for the arts’ (Laurence King, 2006) and ‘Picture Book: contemporary illustration’ (Laurence King, 2006). I was a regular contributor to Grafik magazine, before its sad demise in 2011, and I've also written about design and illustration for ISTD Condensed, Nico and Varoom.
I've been working on research projects at the Central Saint Martins Museum & Study Collection since 1997. I specialise in early 20th century prints and, in particular, the revival of wood engraving as a popular means of book illustration during the 1910s-30s.
My career in the design industry began in 1998, when I became an archivist in the London studios of leading international design consultancy, Pentagram. In 2001 I was promoted to Communications Manager, with an exhaustive (and often exhausting) role encompassing press and publicity, in-house writing and the day-to-day management - and promotion - of The Gallery at Pentagram.
