Dr. Bathini Nagendra Babu has completed B.Sc and M.Sc from Osmania University, Hyderabad. He obtained PhD in synthetic organic chemistry from CSIR-IICT, Hyderabad (formal degree awarded by Osmania University), in 2006. Thereafter, he went abroad for Postdoctoral Studies at Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences, Bethasda, & collaboration with United States Department of Agriculture–Agriculture Research Services (USDA-ARS), Beltsville-MD, USA (2006 – 2009). In 2009, he joined as an Assistant Professor, then after promoted as Associate Professor in 2016, Department of Medicinal Chemistry at NIPER-Hyderabad and then moved to CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology as Senior Scientist. Since 2009, as independent researcher he focused on synthesis of bioactive natural product/analogues, NCEs by using organo- metallics/ Metal free catalytic reaction//asymmetric synthesis/ and its biological evaluation against cancer, microbial, as well as depression. He was also taken a lead to establishment of the Institution NIPER-Hyderabad (its inception to till 2018) as one of the founder faculty as well as part of management council and established the organization. He is also actively engaged in promoting established Pheromone Application Technology of IICT to the farmers. Closely working with State Agriculture Departments with regard to implementation of PAT to control the most damaging pests i.e., Pink Bollworm [PBW]-Cotton, Fall Armyworm [FAW]-Maize and corn, Yellow stem borer etc., in a pilot scale. Dr. Nagendra Babu has made prominent contributions in developing new synthetic methods in organic chemistry which are published in good Impact journals i.e., published by American Chemical Society, Royal Society of Chemistry, Elsevier Inc. and Wiley-VCH publishers. Apart from the basic research, he is actively involved in producing highly skilled human resource as PhD/Master thesis supervisor and also under skill development programme. From his research group 8 PhDs and more than 60 masters students (one year projects) were successfully completed their dissertations and published more than 75 articles as well as filled 4 patents. Dr. Nagendra Babu was recipient of one of prestigious Award OPPI Young Scientist – 2012, Best Faculty Award – 2016, Director's Special Appreciation Award 2016-17 and CSIR-IICT young Scientist Award 2019.
