The Data Services & Platforms organization provides big data tools, platforms and solutions used internally throughout Expedia. I served as the team lead for several squads, designing and building large-scale systems around Hadoop, Hive, Kafka, and other big data technologies, both on-premises and in the cloud.Projects include:• Jetstream: Managed replication platform for replicating Hive tables between data centers and data lakes. Cloud-native with AWS technologies, Terraform, Java, & TypeScript• Lighthouse: Hive & Hadoop job monitoring, tuning, and visualization. Created with AWS Kinesis, AWS Lambda, SQL Server, and Angular• ADQ: Data quality engine that used user-provided queries & rules for evaluating data set quality, including historical trends. During my time on the Data and Analytics team, I developed company-wide monitoring and analysis solutions: • Developed multiple dashboards for tracking Service Health, Performance & Availability, & SLAs met; dashboards displayed on floor TVs across HQ • Designed and built reliable, highly-available, and distributed metric collection processes which pull from multiple upstream sources into a single monitoring service. Used Zookeeper for queuing and leader selection • Developed several internal websites using jQuery, Angular.js, Twitter Bootstrap, and other common Javascript libraries. My work on the Engineering Tools Team involved developing and supporting tools for the developer and tester communities across Expedia. On the Core Automation team, my role was to build and support an in-house automated testing framework. We provided an automated test platform for all the test teams across Expedia to manage and run tests. Our products included:• Web testing framework tailored to company needs• Website for starting automated tests and reviewing results• Distributed execution systemI worked closely with members from each team to help improve our tools, provide help and support, and guide best practices in testing and test automation across the company.Main technologies used: C#, ASP.NET, and SQL Server.

Worked full-time over two summers, and part-time during the school year. Developed software with a small team of students in consultation with various external clients.Major projects:2005: Worked on a mobile application for a biomedical firm to track samples. Developed a software for a handheld scanner, including offline mode and database synchronization. Dealt with FDA regulations for software design and documentation and Windows CE libraries.2006: Developed a newer version of custom VBscript software for medical heart/lung machines, for a self-employed client. Used C# and SQL Server. Dealt with FDA requirements for software development, device drivers for medical hardware, and HL7 messaging formats.
