About Jill Baxter
Jill Baxter has been a working professional in the outdoor adventure industry for over 25 years. She has guided extended river expeditions from the awe-inspiring Grand Canyon of the Colorado River to the legendary Nahanni river in Canada's Northwest Territories. Jill received an Honours Bachelor of Outdoor Recreation, Parks and Tourism and a Bachelor of Science from Lakehead, University and completed a graduate residency in environmental education through Utah State University. Jill is an instructor-trainer in many outdoor skills and has been one of the lead instructor’s for the Outdoor Adventure Leadership Program at Algonquin College since it’s inception. Jill has been involved in residential camping, adventure leadership and instruction for most of her life. In 1998 she founded Bear Creek Outdoor Centre with one desire: for participants to bask in the pure joy that can be found in outdoor adventure. Since then the centre has been delighted to design and implement educational programs for visiting school groups, conduct many custom programs and workshops, and is the home to the Active Challenge Summer camp.Jill is Director and Training Coordinator of Canadian Wilderness Medical Training. CWMT is a premier training organization with a focus on building competencies that meet the training standards of the Wilderness Medical Society.

Strong, healthy minds are carried through life and given the energy to succeed by strong healthy bodies.What an amazing journey it has been over the last 12 years with this program that has changed the lives of many young women.There is no doubt that Active Challenge will continue to inspire and empower more people in the future to lead an active, healthy life filled with all of the adventures and successes they deserve.
