Social Impact LeadCastlight Health Oct 2019 - Jul 2021San Francisco, California, UsMy favorite part of working at Castlight Health was strategizing, creating, and executing their social impact program from scratch. I saw there was a need for a social impact program and took the initiative to build it as a Chairperson in the Culture Team. I worked closely with the CEO and c-level executives to gauge their interests, then assessed the employee population by implementing a Social Impact survey, leading to an 80% employee completion rate. I then identified employee leaders, built their capacity to lead nine racial justice initiatives, and reported the results. One such project was the company’s 23rd and most participated hackathon. One of the winning hacks is now a feature in their health benefit to help bridge inequity gaps in healthcare. I also led the first annual Week of Giving, which surpassed our fundraising goal by 140%. -

Due to my strong partnership with customers and data-driven insights I shared with them, I increased registration rates 11% in 9 months for my book of business of 17 customers. I was nominated to serve on the Culture Leadership Team, where I led the Social Impact Committee to build and execute a social impact program at Castlight.

I learned to build partnerships, friendships and lasting connections with people in a diverse cultural setting. I identified community leaders, built their capacity, and partnered with them to initiate income-generating projects, youth development projects and HIV-prevention projects. I cultivated a community-based organization, The Poor and Homeless People's Federation, and contributed to their 2nd place award in a gender equality competition amongst governments, nonprofits and community groups spanning 5 Southern African countries. Being a local government and community capacity builder with Peace Corps gave a new meaning to the word grit. Grit is the passion and perseverance for long-term goals. Grit is holding meetings and after-school clubs and waiting for hours for no one to show up, but keep showing up yourself and change tactics until someone does show up. And when they do, it makes it all worthwhile. Being in Peace Corps means being on a continuous learning curve, opening your heart and vulnerability wider than you thought possible and having more grit than ever.
