As the inaugural CEO of REDCO, I led initiatives to reduce wealth disparities in Rochester neighborhoods by empowering urban entrepreneurs. Our efforts focused on deploying capital, hosting educational seminars, and providing networking opportunities to foster the establishment and growth of locally owned micro and small neighborhood businesses.During my tenure, we supported a diverse range of small businesses, including beauty salons, restaurants, food and industrial manufacturing enterprises, and small business incubators. These efforts contributed to creating sustainable economic opportunities and revitalizing underserved communities.

As the Commissioner, my responsibilities include providing guidance, direction and coordination of Department operations including the oversight of Administration and Finance, Planning, Business and Housing Development, Buildings and Zoning, and four Neighborhood Service Centers. Neighborhood and Business Development operates a $23 million budget which includes the distribution and management of over $9 million annually in Community Development Block Grants through HUD. CDBG funding helps support business and home development, rehabilitation, emergency shelter support and housing opportunities for persons with AIDS(HOPWA )

As the Commissioner my responsibilities include providing guidance, direction, and coordination of Department operations including oversight of community programs, maintenance, supervision of personnel, budget and administration. I ensure that the Department operates efficiently and effectively as a service that impacts the social well being of the Syracuse community, and to ultimately enhance continued collaboration across other Departments, the City as well as Local/Regional area communities.

As the Upstate Director I was responsible for providing support to members of the Democratic Conference in the New York State Senate, working with community groups and issue organizations to promote statewide legislative initiatives and representing the conference at field meetings and events. • Represented the NY State Senate Democratic Majority Conference in Upstate New York and spearheaded outreach and served as liaison to issue advocacy groups and community organization initiatives; • Managed offices in Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse which included 27 counties; • Supervised 10 staff members; • Directed a statewide strategy and work plans for each office using Issue Campaigns to push the Democratic Conference Legislative and Fiscal Agenda; • Developed and maintained a master contact list of community organizations, special interest groups, religious, fraternal, business, and labor organizations in my Senate District; • Created and maintained alliances with organizations, community leaders and elected officials.
