India Business Producer
Mumbai, Maharashtra, India
In this role, I was the sole producer of the BBC's flagship weekly business show called 'India Business Report'. As the producer of this weekly programme, I was responsible to produce India business stories for our world audience on TV, radio and online. On a day-to-day basis, I used to independently come up with story ideas of news features and interviews that will reflect on the business trends in India for our global viewers. Covering big business developments in India was a big part of this role too. As part of this role, I have also produced panel discussions for BBC's 'Talking Business' programme which brings together big business leaders, government spokespersons, ministers and analysts to discuss on big business topics and current affairs. I have secured and produced several exclusive interviews with Indian business leaders, Indian finance ministers, former bureaucrats, Indian central bank governors and interesting new entrepreneurs. Along with the focus on business, I along with my team would also step in to do newsgathering i:e file on big breaking news stories from western and southern India. We would file for TV, radio and online.I have also produced documentaries from Mumbai while I was in this role. One of the best experience of working in this role was a documentary we did on Indian railways for BBC Two. It can now be found on Netflix. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p02xtt6jMy column on what it is like to commute in some of the world's busiest trains is a fun and thrilling read https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/5m79Sm4dkNtrJsk9dX9HqhT/my-super-dense-crush-load-commuteOverall, this role involved being flexible to do anything to support our multi-media production along with strong editorial judgement, people skills, understanding of how to deal with bureaucracy to help get things done for Live and recorded output. Also, how to secure exclusive and rare access to places and people.
