4th-year Ph.D. student in Neurobiology working with Dr. Staci Bilbo

Working with Dr. Ukpong Eyo in the Center for Brain Immunology and Glia. We are passionate about glia and their molecular underpinnings governing different developmental, physiological and pathological processes in the brain. I am currently studying the effects of neonatal/prenatal exposure to alcohol in microglia.

Under guidance of Professor Alexander Henning and Dr. Yahaira Naaldijk, I developed part of a project related to microglia and inflammation, aiming to understand the role of bradykinin signaling on neuroinflammation.

Under the guidance of Professor Helder Nakaya at the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences (University of São Paulo), I finally started a journey in the Bioinformatics world.My current work is part of a Master's thesis from a past student which aimed to seek a molecular signature based on differential gene expression between infected patients with HTLV-1 infection experiencing neurological complications versus asymptomatic carriers.

As research assistant, my current work at the biotechnology Startup LOTAN involves genomics aspects and the use of cloning tools in the development of interference RNA (RNAi) for the control of crop plagues.Our goal is to offer access to a validated technological platform for the development of potential RNAi candidates in such relevant plagues that affect Brazilian crops with most economic and agricultural impact.

Master of Pharmacy (Clinical Chemistry program) with expertise in Genetics and Molecular Biology, currently collaborating at the Laboratory of Applied Molecular Biology to Diagnostics and Pharmacogenomics (LBMAD) in the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Sao Paulo.In LBMAD, under tutoring of Prof. Rosario Hirata and support of my lab colleagues, we're aiming to find potential genetic biomarkers for clinical responses in kidney transplant recipients under immunsuppressant therapy. Through genotyping platforms, experimentally, we are looking for SNPs located in the MTOR and PPP3CA pathways, and analyizing likely associations with SPSS and R.Techniques such as RNA-seq, variant analysis, line-command pipelines are being addressed by genomic and bioinformatics tool in our lab, which I also consider my core interests as my bioinformatician path.

Under Prof. Rosario Hirata's guide, I grew as part of the Scientific Initiation Program in the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of São Paulo.I master my molecular biology techniques for genotyping platforms and learned the background of a set of cutting edge genomic tools (Deep sequencing) that made me concerned of the critical relevance of big data analysis; it also paved the way for potential projects that, in a non-far likely future, will address important global health issues.

Being temporary student of Ph.D. Patricia Sheen at the Bioinformatics and Molecular Biology Unit was one of the most wonderful stages I've ever experienced and also serves me as the critical step for my first abroad experience.Recombinant DNA techniques were quite sufficient to make me decide that I needed to pursue the molecular biology path and also awoke my interest for biotechnological issues such as OGM ethical issues. How Mycobacterium tuberculosis escapes from the therapeutical effects of Pyrazinamide was the main question addressed by the group.
