As Software R&D Director for DGG-Genomics at Agilent I was responsible for all software development and bio-informatics algorithm research and development performed by our DGG-Genomics software teams based in Belgium (former Cartagenia and Multiplicom teams). I also oversaw the team responsible for Customer Services and Support and Professional Services with team members in Belgium, the United States (East Coast and West Coast), and India. In this role I reported directly to the Vice President and General Manager of Genomics.

As Software R&D Manager for DGG-Genomics at Agilent I was responsible for all software development and bio-informatics algorithm research and development performed by the DGG-Genomics software team based in Leuven-Belgium (former Cartagenia team). I also oversaw the team responsible for Customer Services and Support and Professional Services with team members in Belgium, the United States (East Coast and West Coast), and India. In this role I reported to the Senior Director for Software R&D for DGG-Genomics.

During this period is served as the Managing Director of Cartagenia N.V. and supported the merger of Cartagenia N.V. with Agilent Technologies Belgium.

In my responsibility as Software R&D Manager at Cartagenia I've grown the software R&D team from scratch to a team of about 20 people. We've successfully implemented a Medical Device Quality Management System compliant with ISO13485 and QSAR, and implemented and got certified for the ISO27001 standard. During this period we successfully developed and brought to the market 3 software products (Bench Lab CNV, Bench Lab NGS, and OneSight), and built the scientific and software foundation for the OnePGT product (released under the Agilent brand) in close collaboration with Leuven University Hospital.

In October 2008 I co-founded Cartagenia together with Herman Verrelst, Steven Van Vooren, KULeuven and Leuven University Hospital. Between 2008 and 2011 we focused on making our first product (Bench Lab CNV) ready for the market, we closed our first commercial deals for the software, and steadily grew the team to support our growing business. In the meantime we prepared the company for a first big capital increase to allow us to enter the US market and catalyse development of our second product focused on the molecular clinical genetics market.

During my period as a post-doctoral researcher at K.U.Leuven I've coordinated BioScope-IT (see previous experience). In parallel, I've supported the bio-informatics research team I was part of in continuing the research topics touched upon during my PhD. From December 2007 onwards most of my time was spent on developing Cartagenia's business plan and presenting it to investors leading up to the founding of Cartagenia in October 2008.

During my period as a post-doctoral researcher at K.U.Leuven I've coordinated BioScope-IT, a bioinformatics services project that ran in collaboration with FlandersBio, the cluster of Flemish Life Sciences companies. The goal of BioScope-IT was to survey the bioinformatics needs and business opportunities in the Flemish Life Sciences industry.

During my PhD I've developed methodologies for statistical integration of heterogeneous data sources to support biomedical research and disease gene hunting.
