– Running human participants 8 hrs/wk under graduate student Emily Brown and PI Dr. Tiffany Ito at the CU Stereotyping and Prejudice Lab, investigating the gender gap in STEM disciplines– Meeting with the research team bi-weekly to develop knowledge of research methods, tools, and processes used in the field of social-behavioral psychology– Utilizing Qualtrics for surveying, and building on existing experience with R/RStudio to learn data wrangling, cleaning, and analysis

Reinvested my passion for backpacking and the great outdoors back into Cranbrook's Wilderness Program alongside five other student leaders, with the goal of improving the experience for future participants through impactful updates to the inner-workings of the expedition, which included:– Wrote and distributed a survey to students and parents using Microsoft Forms, collected and analyzed data on experiences with the program– Scripted, filmed, acted in, and edited a ten-minute informational video about hypothermia dangers and prevention, shown annually to 70+ sophomores in preparation for the expedition– Improved UX design, accessibility, and eco-friendliness of the pre-existing 'Wilderness Cookbook' by consolidating, updating recipes to include easy-to-measure portions, ingredient identifications, and substitutions, and creating a second cookbook for sophomores tailored to their provisions and skill level

After participating in Cranbrook's 50th Wilderness Expedition (an 11 day, 50 mile backpacking trip) as a sophomore in high school, I became enthralled with the outdoors and the Wilderness Program itself, which led me to becoming a student leader on Expeditions 51 and 52 as an upperclassman. Preparation for each expedition took place from October up until departing for the Smoky Mountains in mid-March. My experiences included the following:– Trained and was certified in CPR and Wilderness First Aid (WFA) through NOC SOLO Southeast– Taught sophomores the hard skills (reading topographic maps, tying knots, using WhisperLite stoves, bear bagging, etc.) and facilitated learning of the soft skills (growth mindset, teamwork, benefits of solitude, etc.) essential for backpacking– Led a group of seven sophomores through the backcountry alongside two adult leaders for a week and a half– Portioned and packed food for ~100 expedition participants, each year- Mentored junior student leaders and facilitated teamwork and camaraderie among the 15 student leaders– Led ~30 sophomores in after-school circuit training and cross-country runs in preparation for the trip– Hiked into campsites mid-expedition to resupply groups with provisions– Cleaned and repaired stoves, tarps, and backpacks
