• Invented, implemented and validated multi-microphone signal processing algorithms for listeners with a cochlear implant and a hearing aid• Received a personal 4-year grant “strategic basic research” (SB) at FWO, 3 times recipient of conference scholarship award• 4 peer-reviewed first-author papers published, 10+ peer reviews for JASA, Hearing Research, Trends in Hearing, and other journals• Co-organized course on data visualization and analysis in R, gave several classes on binaural hearing and sound processing, supervised 3 Master theses• Involved in multiple scientific outreach activities of the lab: demos on the Flanders Science Festival Day (“Dag van de Wetenschap”), several movie nights with simulations of hearing loss and cochlear implant listening to reach a general audience with our research

In a team of 4 students we were responsible for the design and implementation of a solar water pumping system for a medical center in rural Uganda. Before, the medical center relied on rain water and ground water pumped up by hand. Now, they are equipped with a solar water pumping system, consisting of solar panels, pump and pump controller with secure lightning protection, a water tower and water distribution system. The project is worked out in close cooperation with the local community, to ensure knowledge transfer.The project consisted of an eight-month preparation during the academic year -- in-depth literature study and design, in combination with several training days on cultural awareness -- followed by a three-month period of installation and on-site education.With extra financial support awarded by VLIR-UOS Travel Grant and Municipality of Malle (Volunteer in the South)

As a team of two high school friends we designed and developed basic websites using Adobe CS, (X)HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, MySQL.
