After 30 years working in the medical insurance industry and health care administration I went back to school at GCC then the Isenberg School of Management at UMass Amherst. I built upon my business experience and embarked on a new career in accounting, first working in a CPA office and now for 253 Organic in Turners Falls, MA. Although I have valued my ongoing education, I truly believe that experiencing the world of business prior to completion of book learning provided a more thorough understanding of the business skills necessary to be a leader in any company.I currently serve in a position that allows me to offer my 35 years of business experience and education in a key role. As an officer of 253 Organic I assist the team in making logical and well informed decisions for the forward advancement of the company. My innate skills for "thinking outside the box" and playing "devil's advocate" to see all sided of a situation often help in these decision making processes. My eye for detail helps me to pick up on small details that might otherwise be missed in legal documents of various sorts. My many years working in a professional business environment are often relied upon when dealing with personnel issues and I frequently consult with our Human Resources staff to offer guidance. In additional to my business and financial book learning, my full time and part time work with Steven D. Chamberlin CPA provided me with invaluable experience in accounting and finance. Although much of my work was with personal tax clients, I spent several years doing bookkeeping and payroll for small businesses and assisted with setting up workpapers for corporate clients. Most of the skills I learned while in his employment have directly translated to my current position and allow me to interface on behalf of the company with accounting, audit, and financial consultants. I spend much of my days compiling data for decision makers and advisors both within and outside of the company.
