Internal Communications Director

Current

Indianapolis, Indiana, United States

Sep 2021 - Present

Senior Manager And Editorial Lead, Marketing

Indianapolis, Indiana, United States

After more than six years of focusing exclusively on employee communications, I took a big leap and accepted a content lead role with Salesforce Marketing Cloud for the world's #1 CRM. At the start of my time at Salesforce, I managed blogs and other web content for Marketing Cloud's core buyer personas. After about six months, I narrowed my focus to the demand generation/B2B marketer persona but expanded my channel reach to cover gated e-books and digital guides, videos, podcasts, educational curriculum for Trailhead, social media and events.I worked closely with key partners from the corporate blog team, SEO/web, product marketing, creative, campaigns, social media, customer marketing and program management. I also co-managed our creative agencies. My proudest accomplishments include:- Working to stand up a B2B marketing guided experience page, which involved interviewing and ghostwriting for several high-profile customers (https://www.salesforce.com/resources/guides/speak-to-every-buyer/)- Leading the creation of two Trailhead learning paths for demand gen marketers as part of Salesforce's new Marketer Career Path (https://trailhead.salesforce.com/career-path/marketer), which launched at the 2021 Connections conference- Providing "show flow" and messaging support for Connections' B2B Excellence on-demand episodesI thoroughly enjoyed bringing our customers' stories to life, and I gained a new appreciation for the relationship between sales and marketing!

May 2020 - Sep 2021

Director Of Enterprise Communications

I was promoted to this new role to lead and develop a team of internal communications writers and editors. I loved building communications strategies for key support areas like HR, IT and enterprise strategy. Affectionately known as “mega strategies,” these were designed to outline communications objectives and desired outcomes for our biggest support functions, allowing projects and programs within that area to ladder up to a cohesive messaging and project prioritization framework. As a people leader, I collaborated with marketing program and traffic managers to build content workflows and assign work based on capacity, capabilities and the development interests of my team - a team that I was honored to serve. I supported enterprise editorial planning to ensure that messages were delivered to the right audience at the right time through the appropriate channels.I also retained my role as business continuity lead for internal communications and spent February-May 2020 managing employee and leader comms at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. What a privilege it was to be part of such an amazing cross-functional team.

Oct 2019 - May 2020

Business Editorial Director

In this role, I was tasked with taking our successful editorial program for internal communications and replicating it for our three core business lines: Retirement Services, Individual Life Insurance and Employee Benefits. I spent a lot of time meeting with business SMEs to understand each LOB's needs and pain points, experimenting with content calendar formats and “soft launching” editorial meetings for each business area. I also stood up the company's first full-time editor function and hired two full-time editors.

Apr 2019 - Oct 2019

Corporate Communications Director

Indianapolis, Indiana Area

Much of my time was spent building editorial standards and managing content calendars for our new corporate intranet and newish weekly e-newsletter, in close partnership with other internal communications partners and our PR, social media and digital marketing teams — together known as our "Content Crew." #crewistheglue I also:- Co-led capacity planning and project prioritization initiatives with my leader- Wrote, edited and published feature articles, news and process-change updates, corporate emails, business continuity and leader communications, and other internal content- Served as the main editor for our intranet and e-newsletter to ensure message and voice consistency and connect the dots between various initiatives- Led and supported communications strategy, development and execution for our enterprise strategy, HR, IT, and community affairs functions- Oversaw internal communications strategy and content development to recruit employee volunteers for the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-MarathonThis position was an enjoyable mix of writing, editing, editorial planning, strategy development, communicating our impact, and team coaching for me.

Nov 2016 - Mar 2019

Senior Corporate Communications Manager

Indianapolis, Indiana Area

I started my career at OneAmerica as primary communications support for all aspects of HR, including benefits, wellness, compensation, onboarding, acquisitions, leadership development and employee relations. In April 2015, I moved into a broader employee communications role to help launch our new SharePoint-based intranet and serve other business units including real estate, community affairs and corporate strategy. In this role, I was most excited about:- Co-launching the “Your First Best Day” new-hire orientation program- Working on a cross-functional team to move our employee intranet from Lotus Notes to SharePoint- Co-developing and serving as co-editor for The Monday Buzz employee e-newsletter- Leading the Buzz’s transition from our primary employee news source to core intranet driver once the migration was complete
