Hong Kong Dignity Institute (HKDI) is an NGO helping refugees, survivors of human trafficking and forced marriage victims through offering legal services alongside mental health support.Since working at HKDI:-Conducted 170+ hours of counselling, mostly in-person with some online appointments;-Counselled child and adult clients from diverse backgrounds, applying trauma-informed care approach when conducting intake interviews and psychosocial assessments and delivering counselling;-Demonstrated multicultural competency as clients are of varying ethnicities and have different first languages, religions and life experiences;-Worked within families where necessary, receiving positive feedback from clients and parents;-Collaborated with caseworker and legal team when needed, e.g. for writing legal case support letter;-Contributed to the development of organisational child safeguarding guidelines;-Presented on trauma-informed care to HKU law students taking ‘Human Rights in Practice’ course.

Gained wide-ranging training and management experience through:•founding own workplace wellness initiative ‘Time to Talk’ during CoVid pandemic, the first of its kind in the organisation, designing and delivering 16 sessions, in-person and online;•co-ordinating the adult refugee learning programme alongside Christian Action's Centre for Refugees;•training as a line manager and supervising diverse team members; •developing training skills by taking a Train the Trainer course and designing and delivering 14 own sessions, including workshops for Diploma-level qualifications (Cambridge DELTA);•focusing on Diversity, Equality and Inclusion through sharing staff resources and teaching materials as well as organising and participating in corporate staff events that promoted positive mental health, cultural awareness and gender equity.Also became a skilled English Language teacher by:•completing the Cambridge DELTA, with a distinction in subject knowledge and course design;•accumulating vast experience teaching Beginner to Advanced General English for Primary and Adults, including refugees and students with additional support needs;•developing proficiency in teaching for the IELTS exam and Business English settings;•becoming confident in creating materials and designing a syllabus outline and being capable of adapting these to an online format.
