Most of my working life has been in retail and customer service which go together. I have worked at both independent shops and well known stores in London. I had a change of work in the leisure industry for a few years before being a school caretaker for 15 years. I am very passionate about our environment and did my first beach clean back in 1971. I have witnessed the impact that plastic is having on our environment seeing huge amounts of plastic washing up on our beaches every day. I regularly do a beach clean on my way to work and also take part in and organise beach cleans and litter pick events in my volunteer role as a 'Litter Heroes Ambassador' for Keep Britain Tidy. When working as a school caretaker, I volunteered extra time to teach the Eco-Schools programme including beach activities, litter picking and gardening club.I left my caretaking job to start my own business and opened a Zero Waste Shop which is the only local business dedicated to eco-friendly products. My shop has received lots of recognition gaining the Plastic Free Gold Status from Surfers Against Sewage and was selected as one of the top 100 small businesses of 2023 by Small Business Saturday UK. Also winner of Theo Paphitis' #SBS and shortlisted for Somerset Business Awards 2024.I am a parish councillor and was recently awarded the 'Chair's Award' for service to our community from Somerset County Council. Other interests include gardening, walking and cooking.
