When this decades-successful program, developed at the University of Minnesota and utilized around the country, was ended by the local community college, a group of students formed a non-profit and hired an instructor so that it could continue. I have been fortunate to serve as President of my Rotary club twice and also President of the club's Foundation. With one year's exception, I have served on one or both boards since my second year of membership. I have been the Event Chair for the major fundraiser, Arts & Adventures, twice, and on the leadership team for the event six times, as the event project manager. The result has been the development of a project management template for the event that can be handed from one event chair to the next, providing continuity. During my years working on this event, it grew from raising $15,000 to $65,000.

Pets have been a lifelong passion and I am proud to have served in multiple board roles of this local no-kill pet shelter. At the start of my two terms as President, I inherited the organization during a time of significant change as it grew from a small, grassroots effort into a professional business. I led the board as it developed the structure for the organization and wrote project plans for marketing events, employee and volunteer manuals, policies, and negotiated land use with the local city and county. During my tenure, the board negotiated use of a county-owned adjacent building and developed systems to ensure its care and upkeep, as well as best use. No longer on the board of directors, I continue to donate graphic design and web services, and manage marketing efforts for the organization.

The purpose of the Long Beach Merchants' Association is to promote tourism, improve the economic climate, and promote local activities that will stimulate new business in the area of the City of Long Beach, Washington. I have served in multiple roles on the Board of Directors, including 3 terms as secretary, assisting event chairs in gaining City funding and services, writing budgets, and other needed documents both pre-and post-event. Preparing agendas, minutes, budgets and assisting the President in executing requirements set forth in the bylaws. Chairing a bylaws revision included design, management, and execution of the project.
