Innovation in transport which enables people to share cars, journeys, bikes and taxis can change the way we travel, linking people with public transport without the need to own a car. I am excited at the prospects for this, but my research and experience indicates these innovations need shaping to work for communities and the environment.The first Annual Survey of Mobility as a Service, published by Landor Links in 2017, surveyed expectations of, attitudes to and preparedness for Mobility as Service in the UK. Survey respondents were largely optimistic - but unprepared - for the potential changes.Openness in integrating car clubs, journey sharing and bike share with public transport will be key to creating accessible, inclusive and sustainable MaaS. My work with TravelSpirit to shape an open approach to new mobility services which will help the sector be broadly accessible, environmentally beneficial and socially just.
