Scientific posters relating the content of these tours and STEM have been presented at ACS National Meetings.

This yearly event prepares the best high school chemistry students to participate in chemistry competitions. The process includes a Maryland local exam, nomination to participate in the USNCO, nomination to attend Chemistry Camp and a final nomination to participate in the International Chemistry Olympiad, IChO. Every year four students among more than a thousand participants represent USA in this challenging competition, they travel to the country where the competition is held; in 2018 the IChO will be held in Praga, Poland.

I continue being active in many of the activities of the ACS Maryland LS. This year, I have two new challenges as Member at Large and as Editor of our magazine. The ACS Maryland LS has a new website, it has the Chesapeake Chemist Newsletter link in the menu located in the website's first page, http://www.acsmaryland.org. The first issue of 2020 will be available in February. I am looking forward to young chemists to send articles, comments or publications, it will be a pleasure to select some of them and publish them in our newsletter.

She has 19 years’ experience teaching chemistry, physics and technology in high school, first in Philadelphia and later in Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS) where she also served as teacher mentor for 10 years. She has served the ACS Maryland section as chair, vice-chair and chair elect as well as member at large for several years and has served as coordinator of various outreach programs of the Maryland Section of the American Chemical Society. Statement: Beatrice will represent Maryland scientists and advocate for their career advancement as councilor of ACS MD. She has shown lots of enthusiasm and initiative while serving the ACS Maryland section in different capacities. In the past two years she presented chemical education related posters at ACS national meetings in an effort to bring awareness of the role of chemistry in public health and the role of ACS members in spreading the knowledge of chemistry to the community; this can be taught within the context of multidisciplinary areas, STEM.As councilor, working with ACS colleagues, students, and ACS staff to enhance opportunities to younger scientists and members, she would emphasize three initiatives:1. Strengthen the relationship between ACS local section and ACS at the national level 2. Provide strong support for members' initiatives3. Enhance our public profile and continue to advocate for science within the community
