Worked as Senior Associate in the Banking and International Capital Markets department, where I gained wide experience in both national and cross-border financing transactions, including corporate finance, syndicated loans, asset finance, structured finance, project and infrastructure development finance, acquisitions and real estate finance, leveraged finance. I also advised in several equity and debt capital markets transactions, debt restructuring transactions, distressed debt trading and bankruptcy transactions effected in the last years. During the final years of my period in A&O, I helped build the Aviation Finance practice of the Madrid office. During my A&O period, I attended multiple training courses on corporate law, finance law, ICM and insolvency, both in-house in the Madrid and London offices and external, such as FIDE (Fundación para la Investigación sobre el Derecho y la Empresa - legal and economic think tank located in Madrid).Other than my legal related work in the firm, I was strongly involved in the process of hiring talent, training junior associates (developing strong mentoring and coaching skills) and training clients by participating in courses and workshops. Advisor in legal and finance matters as Spanish representative in the Fifth Committee of the General Assembly (Administrative and Budgetary Matters) during the Spanish Presidency of the European Union. Tasks included coordination of the common position of the EU, negotiation of resolutions in the Fifth Committee on behalf of the EU, including resolutions of peace-keeping missions of United Nations.

During my first period working at A&O Madrid, I worked as a Junior Associate in the Corporate and Finance areas, each for a six month period, before finally settling in in the Finance Department where I acquired wide experience in due diligence work (in particular in energetic and real estate sectors), contract drafting, negotation and coordination of the Spanish leg of cross-border transactions (drafting and negotiation of Spanish law guarantees and security packages, powers of attorney and conditions precendent to signing/closing), amongst others.During these months I also attended the Corporte Induction Course and Finance Induction Course which provided me a solid background on these areas. Although I joined A&O in April 2008, I soon caught up with my peers who had joined in September 2007 and was promoted from Junior Associate to Associate in August 2009 (in 16 months vs the standard 24 months).

During my internship, I assisted several diplomats in the tasks involved in the preparation of Spain's intervention in the opening of the 62nd session of the General Assembly, which included attending meetings and assisting in the preparation of the communications with the capital. I was then assigned to the diplomats covering the Third Committee of the General Assembly (Social, Humanitarian & Cultural Issues) and my tasks involved mainly attending meetings on behalf of Spain, reporting back on the issues discussed and any other related tasks required by the diplomats I was assisting.
