Beatriz has over 20 years of experience in the private, public and academic sectors. In 2013, she rejoined SAI Law & Economics as a partner, where she headed the International Trade Law Practice Group from 1999 to 2006. In SAI she offers legal services and strategic and trade intelligence advice on international trade, foreign investment, public policy, regulatory procedures, arbitration and other dispute settlement mechanisms, among others. Her clients include domestic and foreign companies, business organizations and federal, state and foreign government agencies.Beatriz served as Undersecretary for Foreign Trade at the Ministry of Economy of Mexico between 2006 and 2011. In that capacity, she was in charge of the international trade relationship of Mexico with the world, international trade negotiations and litigation and Mexico´s representation before economic and trade international forums and organizations (WTO, APEC, OECD and ALADI). She also served in the same Ministry as Director of Legal Analysis at the Office in charge of negotiating the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) between 1990 and 1992. Beatriz’ public sector experience also includes five years of service at the Ministry of the Interior (1983-1988) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1990).Beatriz has also worked as a professor and researcher at the ITAM between 2011-2012 and 1993-1999, where she published the book Reflections on Mexico’s International Trade Policy - 2006-2012. She has written and co-edited several books and articles.Beatriz graduated as a lawyer from the Escuela Libre de Derecho in Mexico City and holds a Master’s Degree in International Affairs from the School of International and Public Affairs at the University of Columbia in New York.She is a member of the World Economic Forum Global Agenda Councils and is a Senior Fellow of the International Center for Trade and Sustainable Development in Geneva, among others.
