Working at Hayters Timber & Paving was my first real job. In this job i was first exposed to customer service and buisness operations. As a labourer my chief task was customer service. A customer would approach me with an order or an inquiry and it would be my responsibility to fill out the order or give advice on the inquiry. In this role the primary customers were Tradesmen, and dealing with them instantly developed confidence in customer service. This foundation still serves me to this day when i am interacting with customers and managing my teams. My experience included-Processing wood, ie operating industrial saw's and planeing equipment such as large bandsaws, dropsaws, tablesaws, planers, paver saws, and morticing machinery. -Forklift operation, moving pallets of pavers & packs of many types of wood, varying greatly in size and shape.-Loading customers vehicles manually and with forklifts.-Taking invoices from customers-Answering phone inquiries-Maintaining & servicing forklifts-Advising customers on which woods to use for individual applications. This role was full of invaluabe experience for me, from customer service to operating dangerous machinery. It was a great job, run by an amazing team, and it serves as the foundation that i have built the rest of my skills upon.
