This demanded a working knowledge of the steel manufacturing environment, as well as a clear understanding of the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standards. I was tasked to perform random quality checks ensuring all material conformed to the industry standards with procured steel material. This complies with the “Buy America” requirements set forth by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). I was also tasked with implementing improvements which increased the overall quality of the certification process. I accomplished this by creating a uniformed standard of quality to be met by all vendors and suppliers and ensured that it followed the CMII model for configuration management. I created, and managed, a clear and concise process for logging and tracking quality deficiencies for dealing with material that did not comply with the (FHWA) standards in order to streamline the material replacement process, and to reduce lost production time.
