Led engineering at this Sequoia-backed healthcare company creating a virtual clinic for women’s and family health, delivering continuous virtual care for fertility, pregnancy and parenting.Doubled the engineering team while increasing the non-male portion of engineering to 40+%. Launched with three Fortune 25s (and many smaller companies). Upleveled the engineering org across many dimensions, and established engineering strategy and vision.

Led engineering at this small startup with a mission to help physicians make patient-specific data-driven decisions in highly complex clinical areas by applying machine learning to electronic health records.I implemented key processes for product, project, and software development. Retrofitted a HIPAA compliant environment. Led the refinement of the sepsis module and buildout of new modules for Clinical AI. Started integration with Epic and Cerner EMRs.

Responsible for the majority of software engineering at New York Times; Most things backend, digital publishing platforms, marketing tech, subscription systems, QA, infrastructure, and data engineering. A group of around 300 people.

Lead the effort in rebuilding the foundation for Data Engineering.

I built the the engineering organization for Sum, designed the overall architecture and security plan, and helped hire most of the rest of the organization. I was also one of the main responsible behind building up our recruitment strategy, hiring practices, and onboarding. I also was one of the main responsible people behind our project organization.We were a company focused on harnessing and interpreting large volumes of data that would help improve health outcomes and empower people to lead healthier lives. We were building everything from software to hardware. Unfortunately we ran out of money before we reached launch.On the technology side we built a native iOS app and a fully functioning near-real time streaming platform. The backend was fully HIPAA compliant and hosted in AWS. We used EC2, EBS, ELB, Kafka, HBase, Scala, Python, R, Chef, and Docker.

One of the first employees at Chartbeat. Played a crucial part in bringing Chartbeat from being a minor player in the analytics space to having all major news publishers as clients. Helped grow the entire company, and recruited and built the engineering organization.On the engineering front, I extended and stabilized the architecture to handle the growth. Architected, built, and ran many critical components, using Python, C, JS, MongoDB, MySQL, RabbitMQ, and Puppet. Everything running inside AWS.

Helped transition the Joost technology to Adconion, focusing on the video transcoding facility (Python, MySQL, PHP). Also involved in the new advertising forecasting system for Adconion (Java).

One of the lead engineers behind the Joost video players from the very early days of Joost.Responsible for the metadata handling (RDF), behavior and impression tracking, advertising handling (custom and very early Freewheel), internal UI APIs, and general backend/frontend communication in both the Mozilla/XULRunner-based client application (C++, Javascript), the multi-platform browser plugin (Qt-based, C++), and the Flash/Flex player (AS3).Managed the "Player Team" of six engineers responsible for the browser plugin, Flash based player, iPhone application, Android application, partner integrations (Boxee and others), Joost Labs projects, and much more.

Representing Novell at the working group, and coordinating and synchronizing the Firefox XForms effort with the evolving standard. Contributed to both the 1.0 and 1.1 specifications.

Consultant specialized in XForms, hired in collaboration with the local W3C office. Consulted on local projects, and gave lectures and tutorials -- both internally at Fundación CTIC and externally.

Employed to spearhead the Firefox XForms implementation in collaboration with IBM. Started the project from scratch, and built both code (C++, Javascript), tests, and community around it. Was also part of the W3C XForms Working Group and participated in the work on the 1.0 and 1.1 specifications. Actively involved in the general politics around "web standards" and their implementation with specific focus on Mozilla Firefox.

Research Assistant on a multitude of research projects regarding wireless networks (concentrated on Bluetooth, but some ZigBee research too), mobile devices, and sensor networks. Co-authored three peer-reviewed articles.

Worked almost a decade for Minolta, mostly part-time while studying, and experienced computing from the early days of "personal computers" hands-on. Started with installing and maintaining DOS 3.30 on IBM PS/2 PCs, and went through OS/2 and Windows NT installation and administration, to administering Novell Netware servers, network infrastructure, and developing in-house applications in Lotus Notes/Domino.
