About Beau Lancaster

Beau Lancaster is a Public Historian and Content Creator. His specialty is developing multimedia historical content for diverse audiences: BIPOC and LGBTQIA. Beau's background is as a civic educator working at a range of civic and social justice education organizations in New York City. His education work focusing on the need for teacher diversity in New York City schools was highlighted by the Chalkbeat New York First Person series. He was a 2016 NYU Fellow for Emerging Leader in Public Service. Earning a merit-based scholarship, Beau completed a year of graduate public policy and nonprofit management training at NYU Wagner. In 2021, Beau was selected as an Audio Podcast Program Fellow for Made in New York at the Gotham Media Institute. In May 2022, Beau graduated with a master's in public history and archive studies at NYU. While at NYU, Beau wrote, directed, and hosted "The Shady Historian," a Youtube Channel that focuses on BIPOC Queer history was highlighted by CUNY TV Shades of Us in February 2022. Beau is in the post-production phase of completing Gay, Black, and Blue: The Raid on Blues Bar, which focuses on the last gay bar in New York City's history. The Washington Post published an op. ed I authored "The history missing from the LGBTQ story told during Pride Month" in June 2020.Beau works part-time as a direct service educator at the Tenement Museum and an anti-racism facilitator at Seachange Collective but is looking for full opportunities in research and multimedia historical work.
