Looking after Youth Participation at headspace National. Main responsibilities include facilitating headspace National Youth Reference Group (aka hY NRG), looking after hN interns, and overseeing youth participation opportunities at headspace National.

- Develop and facilitate consultation sessions and forums with young people and youth workers, and develop policy advice and position papers on behalf of YACVic, the peak body and leading policy advocate for young people and the youth sector. - Develop and facilitate the YACVic Rural Activators program by supporting a group of young people to develop their own advocacy projects.- Support YACVic Rural projects and events - Contribute to YACVic’s statewide policy and advocacy work

This role involves managing the YMCA Victoria Youth Parliament program which is a four month long program which brings 120 young people to the Parliament of Victoria to have their voice heard. The program culminates in two residential camps, a 3-day Training Weekend, and 6-day residential week were 3-days are spent in the chambers of Parliament. I direct the program to achieve the following outcomes: -Young people are given a safe space to be heard, develop a better understanding of the political system and break down social barriers-Young people have the opportunity to develop their skills and confidence in public speaking and their self confidence-Young Victorians have a an increased capacity and appetite, and the confidence and connections to engage in their local communitiesMy role as Program Director involves: -Recruiting and managing 16 young volunteers who become the Taskforce who develop and facilitate the program-Assist in recruiting and engaging Victorian schools and community groups to participate on the program. -Ensure effective program coordination, including timelines, facilitating volunteer meetings, equipment/resources, administration.-Seeking additional funding to ensure participants can attend the program -Establishing and maintaining stakeholder relationships with Victorian Government partners, NGOs, local councils and schools to grow and develop the program. 2017 Program Highlights include: -Establishing a new partnership with Deaf Children Australia to include DeafHood, a group of young Victorians who are deaf or hard of hearing, in the Youth Parliament program. -Developing a partnership with the Victorian Electoral Commission to fund four Youth Parliament teams from rural and regional Victoria. -Facilitating a stream at the World YMCA Programme Innovation Camp in Leysin, Switzerland, to educate YMCA staff and volunteers from around the world on how to run a Youth & Parliament program. - Facilitating the batyr@schools program which aims to start the conversation around mental health and reduce the stigma around mental health in order to increase help-seeking rates. The workshops are provided to Year 9 to Year 12 classes.

- Facilitating the First Aid in Schools program for primary school students of all ages.

In association with YMCA Victoria, this program allowed me to develop my skills as a camp leader in Osaka over 7 weeks. Tasks included running sessions, planning camp programs, conducting risk assessments and taking action to align procedures with best practice, as exercised in Victoria. This program developed my skills with working with people who speak a different languages and highlighted that language is not an essential part of ensuring a young person has a great camping experience.

This year long program involves rotation through three different ares of the public service in different roles and involves extensive training and development. At the completion of the graduate year, an ongoing position in the initial rotation was undertaken.
