About Becki Cross

I am a Lecturer in Business and Enterprise at the University of Central Lancashire. I am the Course Leader for the BSc (Hons) Business and Marketing Course.I am currently delighted to be undertaking a part time role as Project Manager and EIR (Entrepreneurs in Residence) Lead, Centre for SME & Enterprise Development.I am an experienced event manager, event strategist, and small business owner. I am passionate about business events and entrepreneurship.I founded my business, Events Northern Ltd, in 2004, at the age of 22. Events Northern Ltd was a respected conference and event management company, based in Preston, Lancashire, in the North West of England. Our small team ran conferences with up to 1k delegates and exhibitions with 14k attendees. When events were stopped due to the pandemic, it gave me the opportunity to return to university to study for a Master's in International Hospitality and Event Management. My dissertation focused on the value of business events for entrepreneurs and small businesses. This then inspired me to pursue a career in academia. Events Northern Ltd is still a going concern, however the team has now been disbanded and we no longer accept any client projects. I do, however, still run a passion project of mine "PlannerFest" - an event for stationery, planner and journal lovers, established in 2019. This has now grown into three distinct brands: StationeryFest, JournalFest, as well as PlannerFest. The three events took place under one roof, at Manchester Central, on Saturday 1st July 2023 with 787 people attending. On 29th June 2024, the event doubled in size, with over 100 stallholders, ranging from independent small businesses, through to internationally recognised brands. 1500 people attended. Planning is already underway for 2025!I have over 20 years of event management experience, specialising in conferences, exhibitions and B2B events and working throughout the UK, Europe and the USA. Previously I was Deputy Editor for EventMB - now Skift Meetings - the number one resource for event planners (eventmanagerblog.com) for over 4 years.
