Beckie Scott is the founder of Spirit North, an organization dedicated to improving health, wellness and education outcomes for Indigenous children and youth through the transformative power of sport and play. As one of Canada’s leading sport for social development organizations, Spirit North currently works in partnership with over 100 Indigenous communities across Canada, reaching over 16,000 youth annually. A 3-time Olympian, Scott won gold in Salt Lake City in 2002, becoming the first Canadian (and first North American woman) to win an Olympic medal in cross-country skiing, and Olympic silver in 2006.Following her prestigious career in sport, Beckie was elected to an eight-year term with the International Olympic Committee and served as Chair of the WADA Athletes’ Committee from 2013-2019, where she became known and respected globally for her leadership and advocacy on behalf of athletes’ rights and integrity in sport. Beckie has served as a Director on the boards of the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport, the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games, and the Canadian Olympic Committee. An Officer of the Order of Canada, Beckie holds honorary Doctorates of Laws from the Universities of Alberta, British Columbia and Mount Royal, and has been inducted into the Alberta Order of Excellence, Canada's Sports Hall of Fame, the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame, and the Canadian Ski Hall of Fame. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from the University of Waterloo, and is a frequent contributor to CBC Sports as a broadcast analyst.
