I have a passion for supporting people, a strong desire to further my knowledge base, and welcome any opportunities to utilize the skills I have acquired throughout my recovery journey. I have personal lived experience dealing with financial insecurity, mental illness, addiction and recovery, senior care, loss and grief, sexual assault, intimate partner violence, as well as navigating government and community resources. My recovery journey has been a time of tremendous personal growth and learning. I consider myself to be a lifelong learner and enjoy any opportunity for new experiences and personal growth. I love to give back, and to help others as they pass through the Stages of Change in their own journey of recovery. I have a keen interest in multiculturalism, diversity, accessibility, and equality for all. I believe that everyone has value and deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. I have hundreds of hours of volunteer experience; I have provided harm reduction supplies and supports, transported individuals for crisis mental health care, and delivered peer support to numerous individuals across the province through my involvement with The Fathers Rights movement. I am certified as a SMART Recovery Facilitator and volunteer my time as Lead Facilitator of the Airdrie SMART Recovery group. As well, I have a basic understanding of other recovery models such as 12 Step programs and Faith-based aversion programs. The journey of recovery is personal and varies from one person to another, and I believe that understanding different recovery models is important when supporting others. I possess a strong sense self-awareness, high emotional intelligence, empathy, and compassion; making me an excellent Peer Support resource.
