I work independently with a range of institutions and consortia. With operational experience from across the full value chain of Weather and Climate Information Services (WCIS) and Early Warning Systems and Services (EWS), I provide expert support National Meteorological and Hydrological Services and their implementing partners to design, develop, deliver and evaluate relevant and actionable weather and warning services.

The Professional Accreditation Board is responsible for shaping and keeping under review the delivery of the Society’s strategy in respect of professional qualifications and certification. The Board is responsible to RMetS Council for the management of the Chartered Meteorologist (CMet) accreditation scheme, the Registered Meteorologist (RMet) accreditation scheme, the supervision of the Vocational Qualifications in Meteorology (overseen by the Vocational Qualifications Sub-Committee) and Course Evaluation and reviews of Continuous Professional Development. As Chair of the Board, I oversee its work, initiating and leading related activities as required. A key role is the development and implementation of the Society's Accreditation Strategy and associated programme of work. I am also a member of Council and a Trustee.

In the role of Book Reviews Editor, I actively manage the pipeline of book reviews for the Society’s member journal Weather, liaising with the Society and book reviewers as required and joining other members of the Weather editorial team at meetings of the Weather Editorial Board. In addition, as the Society Endorsements Editor, I am also supporting the Society in a new Book Endorsements scheme for trade and text books. In this role, I work with the Society’s Head of Publishing and Strategic Relations to assess books that the Society has the opportunity to endorse, arranging for peer and consumer reviews of the books as appropriate to inform the Society’s final decision.

I am very happy to join the University of Exeter's Global Systems Institute as a Visiting Fellow. I am a Network Member and Associate of PlanAdapt.PlanAdapt is a global network of experienced professionals that provide knowledge services in support of effective, economically just and socially inclusive climate change adaptation and climate risk management around the world.PlanAdapt approaches complex challenges through transdisciplinary mixed methods and engagement of doers and thinkers across the spheres of science, policy and practice. Our advisors and researchers are specialised in methods and processes to bridge the adaptation science-action gap.

I advise Resurgence on the design, development and delivery of weather and climate services (WCIS), helping to develop Resurgence's offer to the WCIS sector and providing expert support to projects as required.

Actively working with developing National Meteorological Services (NMS) in East Africa and the Sahel, enabling and supporting the strengthening of weather and climate services in the region, especially in Rwanda, Kenya and Ethiopia.Key responsibilities include building relationships with stakeholders and identifying opportunities to work collaboratively with NMS and other organisations in country, and in region, in order to develop and deliver weather and climate services to all levels, from national government to local communities and households, in support of sustainable development. Recent work includes: embedded support (from May 2015 to July 2017) in Meteo Rwanda to provide technical assistance to their project 'Strengthening Meteo Rwanda's weather and climate services to support development'; a period of consultancy to assist Meteo Rwanda in the refresh of their Strategic Plan to align with new guidance from the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO); working with Tanzania Meteorology Agency to develop and implement a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) in support of the delivery of their Multi Hazard Early Warning System (MHEWS) and MHEWS Bridge projects; leading the ‘Rapid Assessment’ of user needs for climate services in Ethiopia for the UK-US Public-Private Partnership, Climate Services for Resilient Development; and supporting the SCIPEA project (Strengthening Climate Information Partnerships – East Africa) in various ways, including facilitating Kenyan and Ethiopian consortiums in the development of prototype climate services and giving a presentation to journalists about communicating of climate services. Most recently, I am fulfilling the role of Principal Investigator to the WMO's High Impact Weather lAke sYstem (HIGHWAY) project, leading Work Package 4, which is focused on user engagement and communication of products to end users of pilots of a regional Early Warning System (EWS) for Lake Victoria.

Working with colleagues from other public sector environmental science organisations to identify and maximise opportunities to work together to develop services that deliver economic, environmental and social benefit to the UK.Programme Manager to the partnership, designing and implementing the programme of work comprising: governance; legal framework; programme planning and budgeting; risk management; monitoring and reporting. In addition, co-led and motivated the geographically distributed partnership team for 12 months and authored/ co-authored high level documentation including: Business Plan, Operating Plan, Business Development Strategy and Annual Review.

Led, developed and delivered an industry standard process for new product development in 6 weeks. This was achieved through both consultation and collaboration with key staff from multiple programmes to design and produce appropriate templates and guidance notes, ensuring alignment with existing business processes. To communicate the process, designed an innovative, interactive website and delivered a series of presentations to teams and directorates. Following implementation of the process, mentored and supported staff, facilitating the production of sound business cases, advising the Lead Gatekeeper on the readiness of submissions and chairing Gate Meetings.

Working with a small team, I reviewed Met Office development projects to create a mechanism for prioritising the work.

I was responsible for helping lead a team (of 6 people) that managed the operational delivery of remotely sensed environmental observations. I also fulfilled the role of Weather Radar Network Manager for the Met Office’s network of radars.

I monitored and managed the availability, timeliness and quality of remote sensing observations, especially that from radar. I was promoted to Weather Radar Network Manager in June 2007.

I was a Warfare Officer (sub-specialising in Hydrography, Meteorology and Oceanography) reaching the rank of Lieutenant Commander. I fulfilled a number of roles including:• Meteorological and Oceanographic Forecaster, providing timely and accurate specialist advice, forecasts and warnings to a range of customers through various mediums• Hydrographic Surveyor, actively involved in the production of hydrographic surveys and accompanying reports with specific input on tides and environmental conditions• Divisional Officer, line managing a group of 10-12 sailors• Staff Officer, producing formal letters, reports, briefing notes and presentations, establishing strong working networks, attending and contributing to meetings with key stakeholders
