On December 7, 1941 US Naval Base Pearl Harbor was attacked and fully brought the United States into World War II. A year later food rationing was in place to ensure fair access to diminished supplies of items such as sugar, canned goods, and red meat.Fast forward 73 years to December 7, 2014. As a conscious eating experiment and tribute to the women who brought us through the rationed years, I am living a year by WWII food rationing rules. Appointed to serve as a link between the battalion and the families of the Marines as part of the Family Readiness program. As a Commander's communication tool, the Family Readiness Unit supports the unit by keeping families of Marines better informed about the mission and tasks. Commanders utilize the Family Readiness Unit to relay official command information and to support families through resource referrals. The goal of the Family Readiness Unit is to help families achieve and maintain family readiness. When Marines feel their families are supported, yet self-sufficient, they are better able to perform efficiently, effectively and safely.Prior to appointment to the USMC, served as a US Navy Ombudsman, as the communication link between the command and family members.

Provided intake of newly referred clients and determined eligibility of services. Advocated client referral, self-sufficiency and self-empowerment. Ensured the clinical soundness of client assessments and referrals. Performed monthly billing and accounting of contractual compliance and metrics. Facilitated substance abuse education groups weekly in three-hour durations to determine motivation and gauge readiness for change. Evaluated, screened, interviewed, and referred most qualified candidates to proper hiring authority. Revived and managed virtual job board. Contributed human resource management articles for military magazine with monthly global circulation of over 60,000 paid subscribers. Analyzed statistical data and reports to identify and determine causes of personnel problems and developed recommendations for improvement of organization’s personnel policies and practices.
