Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Mentor Marsh State Nature Preserve

This particular training class was offered through Cuyahoga Valley National Park. This state-wide recognized course is an extension of The Ohio State University. The program focuses on field and classroom instruction. The majority of my volunteer time will be spent at the Mentor Marsh State Nature Preserve, with additional time at Cuyohoga Valley National Park and other parks as time permits.

Assist students with the computers and other equipment in the Geography and Geospatial Lab, room C-2063. Under the supervision of the Lab Manager, maintain and update lab software for workstations and general equipment units. Maintain lab security and a professional environment, and follow college computer lab procedures. Assist the Lab Manager with data management, testing equipment, material and other duties as assigned.

Oversee security planning and execution for the botanical gardens, ensuring the 10-acre garden, 18,000-square-foot Eleanor Armstrong Smith Glasshouse, and other facilities are safe and secure. • Supervise security staff, including hiring, training, and scheduling employees, and handling payroll• Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures that promote efficiency and security• Manage inventory of equipment, including maintaining daily logs of garden equipment • Monitor facility activity, document occurrences, ensure site security, and respond to disturbances • Maintain and enforce disaster and crisis planning, including building evacuations• Assist with events, from providing audio/visual support to handling special parking arrangements
