Favorites included stories on education; women in corporate America; technology; the rise in autism; and a geographic data analysis showing the location of registered sex offenders relative to schools. • Developed statistical method for ranking Illinois public schools for the paper's annual School Report Card package. • Co-wrote “Failing Teachers” series that led to reforms in the Chicago Public Schools, Illinois Senate Education Committee hearings and changes in state law. Series was cited as impetus for Illinois Gov. George Ryan’s 2001-2002 education summit.

Favorite topics included stories on male victims of domestic violence, as well as a series examining Detroit's comeback attempt, using Cleveland as a case study and analyzing data on income inequality in both cities.

Worked in Enterprise Department for five months while on loan from Democrat and Chronicle. Took lead role in producing computer-assisted investigative series revealing crisis facing the nation's crime labs. Series cited as impetus for 1998 federal legislation that provided more than $1 billion in grants to forensic laboratories.
