About Becky Pallack
My jam is lean startup + local news. I'm a co-founder at Arizona Luminaria, a local news organization for Arizona.Before that, I was a beat reporter for many years. In 2016 I became an intrapreneur, co-founding a local digital journalism brand under the umbrella of the Arizona Daily Star newspaper. We acted like a startup without starting from scratch. Then we started an innovation lab to build on what we learned.I'm passionate about creating journalism products that people LOVE. In my role as the Arizona Daily Star's first product manager, I worked as a partner on content strategies and revenue strategies for a variety of digital news products, including websites, apps, guides, and email newsletters. The teams went deep on customer research and testing. I facilitated design sprints and ideation exercises, helped teams accelerate new product development without wasting a bunch of time and resources, and worked across departments to help products succeed. Ultimately my goal is to help reinvent journalism products to create new value for readers and advertisers.I'm among the winners of the Google News Innovation Challenge, the Challenge Grant from the Knight Foundation and ONA, and the Tow Center fellowship.Planning is my super power. I use it for good at News Hack Arizona, the Arizona Press Club, Startup Coffee, Girl Scouts and Lean In.
