I Grew up caring for my terminally ill mother from the ages of 10-24, She also had significant mental health issues. From the age of 16-21 I volunteered as an advocate for Carers South Australia and in my twenties, I was the SA Rep on the National Family Carers Voice, reporting to Senator Vandstone. As a result of my caring role, I had a nervous breakdown and recovered. In 2007 I became incredibly ill, and after 7 years, i was given an accurate diagnosis, of Psoriatic arthritis, osteoarthritis, and fibromyalgia but i also have treated kyphoscoliosis and very well managed anxiety and depression.Today despite a very broken system i am thriving, healthy, happy and independent. Using my professional and personal experiences navigating the health, welfare, and justice systems to showcase a new kind of client centered care that offers solutions for the challenges we all face.​My Approach ​Having lived and seen firsthand how stress and disease can beget mental health issues and how mental health issues can beget disease and stress. I believe strongly in Client focused, Trauma Informed Care and the need to view clients through an eco-system lens, because what affects one person inevitably effects the 4-5 other persons in proximity of them, even if they don't identify as a carer. This is especially true in the case of young children who may be experiencing childhood trauma as we know that “childhood biography often becomes adult biology”The sad reality of chronic illness and mental health management is, that our experience affects everyone around us, no matter how desperately we try to prevent it. Statistically if one person in the family gets sick, it will have significant negative financial and health outcomes on following generations. ​​My company Empowered Healthcare Network pty ltd is about sharing the tools, resources and Support that helps you find the strength and hope to keep on going. ​I Personally work with clients, businesses, and government to support the needs of overwhelmed people and families going through these turbulent and traumatic transitions to support their mental, physical, financial and family health, to reduce the stress burden of navigating the health care and social systems, that often result in a prolonged health crisis for the whole family eco system.
