I had helped coordinate a Community Service Project, with two other Chapter Members, entitled "Cool To Care", in which community members, students, administration and citizens of Davison would donate canned food, non-perishable goods, and/or money to our specific location in the high school. The donation period went from late September to early November, due to the holiday months. All donations would stay local, and would be transported to Outreach East, a non-denominational Christian food bank in downtown Davison. We ran various promotions and PSAs through DTV, and got the community involved. With Outreach East, we agreed upon a system with the chairman of the organization, where $1 was equal to 3 cans of food. At the end of the donation period, and following the transporting, the grand total of food and money equaled out to over 35,000 cans of food. Through the documentation and organization of the Cool To Care project, we presented the project at the DECA State Conference, hosted at the Renaissance Center in Detroit, Michigan. Our project and presentation had earned us a State Championship recognition, and qualified us for the DECA International Career Development Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, where we did well, but did not qualify for a national championship. Through our efforts, we provided 35,000 cans of food for the Davison community during one of the harshest Winters in recent memory, in a community that is home to over 200 homeless families. We also brought attention to ways to get communities involved in helping out the less fortunate, and ways to unite communities to donate. I was awarded with a DECA Honors Stoll for Excellence in DECA, which I wore during my high school graduation, with select few other members of the DECA Chapter. Show less
