I collected environmental data from long-term monitoring sites in a variety of terrestrial and aquatic conditions. I used an inflatable kayak to access aquatic field sites, and collected bathymetry measurements (using a Garmin GPS to 1-2 degree accuracy on water), invertebrate samples, water chemistry samples and measurements (absorbance, turbidity, Quanta HydroLab), and conducted ecological classification of shoreline habitats. I also monitored the farm's soil microbiota and thermal compost pile (compound microscope, temperature probe). I processed, assessed, and recorded hundreds of core samples from trees across northern Canada to determine their inner ring count and other dendrochronological characteristics. After mounting and sanding the samples using carpentry tools, I used CDendro and CooRecorder software to determine ring counts and ancillary data and input that to a database.

I managed a large dataset from multiple sensors in various watersheds over several years, and conducted multivariate statistical analysis on the dataset in the R programming language. I demonstrated the seasonality of stream DOM through an analysis of the trends in hysteresis between stream DOM and stream discharge. I also designed and took leadership in a field survey of aqueous stream greenhouse gases in the same remote watersheds. I managed a team of 3-5 staff and was responsible for their training and workflow in the field. I prepared gaseous samples using a pressure vacuum, and processed them using gas chromatography and infra-red spectroscopy.Finally, I worked as a Teaching Assistant for several courses in the Biological Sciences Department. I designed a flowering hedgerow to plant around the perimeter of the farm’s property to support local, native pollinator species throughout the growing season. I conducted an observational study to investigate the farm’s flowering phenology and corresponding pollinator species. I monitored honey bees, various bumble bee species, other native bee species (i.e. mason, carpenter, sweat), and syrphid flies. I caught samples in small vials and froze them for identification.
