Bee Ostrowsky Email and Phone Number
I've been working as a reference librarian since March 2018 and love it!As a systems librarian, I've written a web application that generates a PDF of barcode stickers that can be printed out on standard labels. I've also created a number of site-specific web applications, cloned a REST service and modified it to be more locally relevant, and generally tried to put technology into the service of my clients.I also wrote "Quiet Revolution" (a news article on Open Source in libraries) for Newsforge and "Anonymous Library Cards Allow You to Wonder, 'Who Was That Masked Patron?'" for Computers In Libraries.Specialties: Evergreen open-source library automation system, Web programming (XSLT; Ajax; JavaScript; Perl; PHP; MySQL; XHTML), network monitoring and security, systems administration (Windows; Red Hat Enterprise Linux and other Unix systems), Dynix and Horizon library management systems, photography, blogging (culture; technology; ethics), Wikis (Wikipedia; PBWiki; Socialtext), social networking sites, and translating geekspeak to English.

Research VolunteerFancyclopedia Feb 2022 - PresentI document the lives of science fiction fans, conventions, and publications. I'm proudest of discovering what happened to Claude Degler, a mystery that had eluded fans for decades. Most of my contributions are simpler: interviewing the family of lesser-known but historically important fans to learn more about their fannish and mundane lives and passions, researching the lives of fans who were known by multiple names, and connecting the dots to make more sense of the past.

Research VolunteerHistorical Dictionary Of Science Fiction Jan 2021 - PresentI find early uses of terms in science fiction and fandom, using a variety of specialized sources and databases to search for meaningful moments in the history of fannish language. I identify terms that haven't been cited in HDSF before (supervillain, time crime, pseudopod, 'verse, etc.) and develop a broad overview of quotations that demonstrate how language has changed and how it has remained the same.

Senior Etl Application DeveloperUniversity Of South Florida Apr 2014 - Mar 2015Tampa, Florida, United StatesI wove data from academic, financial, and clinical systems into a tapestry to tell a story with SAP BusinessObjects Data Services Designer. Sometimes my customers knew exactly what business logic to use and sometimes we discovered it together. Some of the data was public record and some of it was HIPAA-confidential. In the end, I helped to make our data warehouse not only reliable but gratifying to consult. -
