I document the lives of science fiction fans, conventions, and publications. I'm proudest of discovering what happened to Claude Degler, a mystery that had eluded fans for decades. Most of my contributions are simpler: interviewing the family of lesser-known but historically important fans to learn more about their fannish and mundane lives and passions.

I find early uses of terms in science fiction and fandom, using a variety of specialized sources and databases to search for meaningful moments in the history of fannish language. I identify terms that haven't been cited in HDSF before (supervillain, time crime, pseudopod, 'verse, etc.) and develop a broad overview of quotations that demonstrate how.
